Jazz Continue Strong Defense In Win Over Magic

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz extended their winning streak to five with a harder than expected 114-99 win over the Orlando Magic.
Rudy Gobert missed his ninth straight game, but the Jazz defense continued their excellent defensive streak holding their fifth straight opponent below 104 points.
Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points to lead the Jazz.
First Quarter
The Jazz offense was slow to find its groove against Orlando but got a jolt from Mitchell midway through the first quarter.
The All-Star guard scored nine straight points to help the Jazz build a double-digit lead while the team’s defense prevented Orlando from getting easy looks.

Mitchell scored 11 points and grabbed three points in the quarter.
After one, the Jazz led the Magic 28-12.
Second Quarter
Poor shooting plagued the Jazz in the first half, and despite building a 16 point first quarter lead, the misses finally caught up to them.
The Jazz knocked down just 3-23 three-point attempts, and when mixed with 11 turnovers, Orlando was to take a big chunk out of their deficit.

Mitchell scored just two points in the second quarter as the Magic put up 27 points and cut the Jazz halftime lead to five.
At the break, the Jazz led the Magic 44-39.
Third Quarter
The Jazz shot better in the third quarter but it wasn’t enough to be able to pull away from the Magic.
After a brutal half from three, the Jazz knocked down 5-8 from downtown in the third but allowed the Magic to shoot 13-20 overall including 3-5 from three.

Wendell Carter and Mo Bamba combined for 20 points in the third with Rudy Gobert missing his ninth straight game.
After three, the Jazz led the Magic 77-74.
Fourth Quarter
The Jazz found their offensive groove once again in the fourth quarter, continuing to knock down shots and getting into the paint for easy baskets.

Mitchell led the Jazz with 24 points while Jordan Clarkson added 18 points off the bench to extend the team’s winning streak to five.
