BEIJING (AP) — Everything has come late in life for Johan Clarey. Even winning an Olympic medal.
The Frenchman turned 41 last month and has become the oldest man to win an Olympic medal in Alpine skiing after coming second to Beat Feuz to claim silver in the downhill at the Beijing Games.
The previous oldest was Bode Miller at 36 in 2014.
Johan Clarey is 41 years old and has never won a World Cup ski race.
He didn't think he could medal this week, "not at all," because, well, his best Olympic finish was 18th.

It was Clarey’s fourth Olympics and realistically a last shot of being on the podium at a Games.
His best previous finish in an Olympics was 18th in the downhill in 2018.
Clarey was just 0.10 seconds behind Feuz and 0.08 ahead of two-time Olympic champion Matthias Mayer of Austria.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics
Just a year after Japan’s summer Olympics, the Games are back for a winter show in Beijing, China. The unusually short gap between Games is due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Strict precautions and enforced virus prevention protocol are in place to help keep athletes, coaches and personnel safe.
Beijing is the capital of China, with a population of more than 20 million people and the first city to host both a Summer and Winter Olympic games. It is one of the largest cities in the world and 15 hours ahead of Mountain Time. There are 13 different venues in and around Beijing that will be used for the Winter Olympics. A total of 109 events will be held in 15 different sports, and there will be a lot of Utah locals competing for medals. Keep up to date with them at our Olympic headquarters.
