SALT LAKE CITY – BYU football running back coach Harvey Unga had an accomplished playing career long before his days as a coach. The former BYU running back was the school’s all-time leading rusher after his career concluded in 2009.
Once his playing days at BYU were over, he was selected in the 2010 NFL supplemental draft by the Chicago Bears, giving him a chance to play professional football.
Unga was with the Bears organization from 2010 to 2013. Throughout his career, he likely received a lot of Bears gear. One of those pieces of equipment somehow ended up at a Goodwill store in Oregon of all places.
🤣 🤣 never thought I’d see those bad boys again…not sure if anyone dares to wear those bright orange things anywhere…But I may consider the offer. https://t.co/pSKY5cx7ny

A Twitter user that goes by @askthenickdavis found a pair of Nike Chicago Bears shorts with Harvey Unga’s name assigned to them. He tweeted Unga a picture of the shorts that he found in Brookings, Oregon, asking the third-year running backs coach if he would trade the shorts for a chance to coach with Unga during a BYU-Utah game.
Unga replied, “Never thought I’d see those bad boys again…not sure if anyone dares to wear those bright orange things anywhere..But I may consider the offer.”
Harvey Unga spent three years with the Chicago Bears
Coach Unga should probably accept the shorts and tell the fan, “Yeah, you can coach with me during the Utah game this year.” BYU and Utah don’t square off again until 2024. So Unga could get a relic from his NFL career while not needing a random guy on the sideline during a football game.
Also, what is it with random items from football BYU players ending up at donation stores? Another great BYU running back in Luke Staley once found a game-worn BYU helmet at a Deseret Industries. He later was able to find out who the helmet belonged to through some digging in the archives.
