SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s basketball lost a heartbreaking and tightly contested game to Colorado, 66-62 in overtime on Friday night at the Huntsman Center.

Utah had some costly turnovers in the final minute of the game that allowed Colorado to pick up the win on the road. Dasia Young led the Utes with 18 points and six rebounds. Gianna Kneepkens chipped in 11 points and six boards. Kennady McQueen added nine points.

This game was extremely close with the lead changing hands 11 times. It was tied for 4:39 of the game. Colorado had the lead for 21:08, with nine being their largest lead. Utah had the lead for 19:14 and their largest lead was eight points.

Mya Hollingshed and Peanut Tuitele led the Buffs with 16 points apiece. Tameiya Sadler chipped in 13 points and seven boards.

Turnovers Hurt Utah In Overtime

Trailing by three points with 10 seconds remaining, Brynna Maxwell missed a three-pointer but the Utes got the offensive rebound. Kennady McQueen got the ball to Dasia Young, who drilled the three-pointer to tie the game. In the final moments of regulation, Kelsey Rees blocked the potential game-winning basket by Colorado and the game went to overtime.

In the extra period, Colorado had a one-point lead in the last minute when Dru Gylten split her free throw attempts to tie the game. CU hit a layup with 16 seconds left in OT. On the inbounds pass, Utah turned the ball over and the Buffs sealed the win with a pair of free throws.

Utah dropped their record to 10-7 overall and 1-4 in Pac-12 play. They will have a rematch with Colorado, this time in Boulder on Sunday, January 30 at 12 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Mountain.
