Tevian Jones’ 36-Point Game Helps SUU Beat Portland State In OT

SALT LAKE CITY – The Southern Utah men’s basketball team forced overtime before holding off a comeback attempt by the Portland State Vikings.
The Vikings hosted the Thunderbirds on Thursday, January 27.
SUU beat Portland State, 85-82.

The T-Birds controlled the opening 20 minutes of game time and owned a 12-point lead going into the locker room at halftime.
The second half was all Vikings.
Portland State outscored Southern Utah 51-39 and nearly pulled off a comeback before Thunderbirds guard Dre Marin connected on a game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

SUU outscored Portland State 8-5 during extra time and capture a road win.

The Thunderbirds shot 43.3 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent on triples.
Tevian Jones led Southern Utah with a career-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist.

With the win, the T-Birds improved their record to 12-6, including 6-2 in Big Sky Conference games.
Southern Utah’s next game is at home against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Monday, January 31 at 5 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN+.
