Utah Valley Holds Off Dixie State For Rivalry Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Valley men’s basketball team used a big first half to hold off the Dixie State Trailblazers for an in-state victory.
The Wolverines hosted the Blazers on Saturday, January 8.
UVU beat Dixie State, 79-71.
It was Utah Valley’s second straight win and Dixie State’s fourth consecutive loss.

After the first 20 minutes of action, Utah Valley owned a 14-point lead. The Wolverines used the double-digit lead to hold off a second half comeback attempt by the Trailblazers.
Dixie State outscored UVU over the final half, 39-33, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Utah Valley finished the contest shooting 63.0 percent overall and 46.7 percent from beyond the arc. Five Wolverines reached double figures in scoring. Fardaws Aimaq led UVU with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Dixie State shot 41.7 percent from the field, including 26.9 percent from downtown. Frank Staine led the Blazers with 15 points, three rebounds, one assist, and five steals.
With the result, the Wolverines improved to a record of 11-4 this season, including 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference games.

The Blazers dropped to a 7-9 record, including 0-3 in WAC action.
