Dixie State Drops WAC Opener To Tarleton State After Slow Start

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State Trailblazers couldn’t overcome a slow start as they fell to Tarleton State 83-69 in their WAC opener.
Tarleton State built a double-digit lead in the first half and outscored Dixie State 42-31 in the opening 20 minutes. The Trailblazers were able to bounce back in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the Texans outscored them 41-38 in the second half.
Cameron Gooden led DSU with 15 points and eight rebounds. Hunter Schofield chipped in 14 points, while Dancell Leter added 13 points.

Dixie State shot 45% from the field and 35% from the three-point line.
Tarleton State played six players in the game with four of them playing all 40 minutes. Freddy Hicks dropped 27 points. Javontae Hopkins chipped in 18 points, Noah McDavid posted 17 points and Montre Gipson added 13 points.
TSU shot 50% from the field and from beyond the arc.
Dixie State dropped their record to 7-7 overall and 0-1 in WAC play. They will be back home to host Abilene Christian on Saturday, January 1 at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
