An annual Christmas event in college hoops, the Diamond Head Classic makes its return after being canceled last year due to COVID-19. This year, all fans attending the Diamond Head Classic games at the Simpifi Arena a Stan Sheriff Center are required to provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination and wear a mask during the games.
BYU comes into the eight-team event with the highest ranking in the KenPom ratings at No. 25. But in the NET ratings, a tool used by the NCAA Selection Committee, Wyoming holds the highest ranking at No. 19 with an 8-1 record. The Pokes were a longtime WAC and Mountain West Conference rival to BYU for decades before the Cougars left for the West Coast Conference in 2011.
Along with Wyoming, this year’s classic includes another old WAC rival for BYU, the host of the event, Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
Hawaii has been hosting the DHC every year since 2009.
