SALT LAKE CITY – Utah football linebacker Nephi Sewell announced that he has declared for the 2022 NFL Draft after a strong career with the Utes.
Nephi Sewell is the fourth Utah player to forego their senior season and enter the 2022 NFL Draft, joining Devin Lloyd, T.J. Pledger and Cole Fotheringham.
The St. George, Utah native announced his decision on social media on Saturday afternoon.
“When I cam to the U.S., my brothers and I regularly spoke about the dream of playing professional football. After five seasons at the collegiate level, I am ready to take the next step towards that dream,” Sewell wrote. “I am excited to announce that I will be entering the 2022 NFL Draft following the Rose Bowl. Ending my career with a Pac-12 title and a Rose Bowl appearance is the perfect way to wrap up my time playing college football.
“I am so grateful for the terrific people who have helped me along this path,” Sewell continued. “From my start at Nevada through the past three seasons at Utah, there are so many people to recognize. Thank you to Coach Whittingham, Coach Scalley and Coach Swan for bringing me home to Utah and allowing me to play in this wonderful program. The medical and training staff are amazing people, along with all the university’s media, equipment and football operations personnel.
“My teammates will always have a special place in my heart,” Sewell added. “It was an honor to share the locker room with you all. THank you to the Utah fans, who are the best in college football. You welcomed me with open arms and I can’t wait to see you all at the Rose Bowl in a few weeks! Finally, to my family and my fiancée, you are the reason I play this game. I am ready to honor the Sewell name and make you all proud.”

Sewell joined the Utes in 2019 as a transfer defensive back from Nevada. He played in three games during that season. Heading into the 2020 season, Sewell switched to linebacker and thrived. This season, Sewell played in 12 games, racking up 81 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and an interception.
