SALT LAKE CITY – Is it finally Taysom Hill time in New Orleans? According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hill will likely start on Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
“What’s going on with the Saints this week in practice and in the quarterback room is that Taysom Hill has kind of undercover here started taking first-team reps. And appears poised to be the starter for New Orleans on Thursday,” said Rapoport on NFLN’s Good Morning Football on December 1.

The former star QB at BYU has yet to start in a game at quarterback this season. After losing the starting quarterback battle in the preseason to Jameis Winston, Hill then suffered an injury in the season that has limited his availability. Then Winston went down with an injury opening the door for third-string QB Trevor Siemian to run the Saints offense.
“Considering the way that Trevor Siemian has run the offense. It hasn’t been bad, but they kind of need a little bit of a spark here. It makes sense and no one loves Taysom Hill like Sean Payton loves Taysom Hill,” said Rapoport. “All of that is fine. But it’s not that simple. He is dealing with a partially torn plantar fascia in his foot; it has limited him in practice over the course of the last month. They want to make sure he gets through practice okay before they name him the starter. Good sign there; he has been listed as a full participant the last couple of days.”

Saints head coach Sean Payton didn’t formally announce Hill as the starter after Tuesday’s practice in New Orleans, but Hill was the QB who addressed the media. He discussed his injury.
“I’m feeling a lot better. Obviously, I’ve learned a lot about this injury the last little bit,” Hill said. “I had a partial plantar fascia tear, which after learning about it, they said you’d rather have a full team. So I think that’s been what we’ve been working through in terms of pain management and tolerance. That’s been a challenge.”
Hill has not started a game at QB this season. Last year, he started in four games posting a 3-1 record as the starter.
