Men’s volleyball will continue to play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, as the Big 12 does not offer the sport. (Laura Seitz, Deseret News)

PROVO, Utah – You know you’ve made it as a head coach at BYU when you get an ice cream flavor from the BYU Creamery named in your honor.

The BYU Creamery unveiled two new ice cream flavors on this week’s Coaches Show (Tuesday, 9 p.m. on KSL NewsRadio) for BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake and men’s basketball headman Mark Pope.

Kalani Sitake’s ice cream is “Kalani Sitake Road.” The sixth-year coach said last year in a coach’s show that he loves any ice cream with chocolate. So it was only natural for the BYU Creamery to go with a flavor that features chocolate ice cream with marshmallows, brownies, fudge, and pecan pralines.

Mark Pope’s flavor is “Pope’s Postgame Snack.” A fitting name for Pope, who has always enjoyed a good mint brownie from BYU Dining Services or Ben & Jerry’s “Late Night Snack.” Now the third-year coach can enjoy some ice cream named after him. The postgame snack includes vanilla ice cream with chocolate rice crispies, chocolate chunks, and salted caramel.

Kalani Sitake Road and Pope’s Postgame Snack will go on sale at the BYU Creamery on Ninth beginning January 2022.

BYU Creamery Ice Cream Flavors for Coaches Over The Years

Sitake and Pope join an exclusive club of BYU coaches to land a BYU Creamery ice cream flavor. Others include legendary football coach LaVell Edwards. Edwards’ flavor is “LaVell’s vanilla.”

Former BYU basketball coach Dave Rose earned “Rose’s Sneakerdoodle,” a sweet cinnamon ice cream with snickerdoodle cookie pieces.

Women’s Soccer coach Jennifer Rockwood has a flavor named in her honor. “Cherry Rockwood” features chocolate ice cream, maraschino cherries, and chocolate-covered cherry cups.

Former football head coach Bronco Mendenhall once had a flavor called “Bronco’s Cocoa Bean.” But unlike the flavors mentioned above, that one isn’t available anymore after he left to take the Virginia job.
