RSL GM Elliot Fall Shares Insight Into Interview Process As Management Search Continues

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake General Manager Elliot Fall has shared insight into the manager search detailing what exactly he and the club is looking for in a new gaffer.
The easiest part of Fall’s job when signing players is establishing whether or not the player is capable to perform at Major League Soccer level. The hardest part of that process is determining whether or not that player will fit in with the other players on the team, will that player help create a better locker room environment?
When Fall searches the globe for a new manager, he is after one thing in particular; a leader. But how does he determine which leader is better than the rest? How does he establish specific leadership qualities and the importance of all of the variables?
First thing is first, the hiring of anybody in any profession entails a certain level of risk. The more public and important the role, the higher level of risk for the employer.

Fall has shown over his short stint as General Manager to be incredibly savvy. He has made multiple roster moves that have benefited the club. But he cannot predict the future, sadly.
Furthermore, Fall and his staff have spent “thousands of hours” discussing, interviewing, and sorting through the appropriate candidates from the job.
“From a leadership standpoint you have got to talk to people that have been around that person,” Fall said. “And by the way that goes for players, managers, people. I will be honest, in a lot of ways from a character standpoint it’s not any different than what you should be doing in any line of work,” he added.
Plenty of case studies, conversations, and research go into making a decision of this magnitude. But at the end of the day, the decision by Fall and Real Salt Lake on who the next manager will be will also be instinctual. A gut feeling has guided Fall this far, who is to say it will fail him now?
The hiring of a new manager will not occur until the conclusion of the Real Salt Lake season.
