SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s basketball team is off to a great start to the season after a 92-50 win over Saint Mary’s on Tuesday night.
Utah nearly reached the century mark for the third straight game after scoring 49 points in the first half and 43 in second half against Saint Mary’s.
Three Utes reached double figures, led by true freshman Jenna Johnson with 22 points and 5 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 1-for-3 from downtown. Dasia Young dropped 12 points and three boards. Brynna Maxwell added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Utah got off to a great start by outscoring the Gaels 18-6 in the first quarter, followed by a 31-9 second quarter, taking a 49-15 lead at the halftime break.
“I think this has been a really fun team to watch,” Utah head coach Lynne Roberts said after the game. “I’m very pleased with our efforts. We did great in the assist to turnover ratio again, which I’m very proud of. Our goal coming in was ten turnovers; we had eleven. We had 25 assists on 36 made baskets, which is an insane ratio for us. We didn’t shoot it well from three, as Saint Mary’s defended the three-point line well, but we still hit nine of them tonight. Overall this was just a really good win.”
Great team win. 🙌

The Utes shot 53% from the field but the ball movement was the stat that stood out from the win. They had 25 assists on 36 field goals and turned the ball over just 11 times.
Utah improved to 3-0 on the season. The last time they started 3-0 was the 2018-19 season when they started 12-0 and won all of their non-conference games. They will finish their four-game homestand on Friday, November 19 against Cincinnati at the Huntsman Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. MT and will be streamed at UtahUtes.com.
