Utes LB Devin Lloyd Named Semifinalist For Two Awards

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Utes star linebacker Devin Lloyd has been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik and Butkus awards, which was announced on Monday.
The Butkus Award is given out annually to the nation’s best linebacker, while the Bednarik Award goes to the nations most outstanding defensive player of the year, with Devin Lloyd being a semifinalist for both.
Lloyd was a finalist for the Butkus Award, making it the second straight season that he was named a semifinalist for the award.
The last time a Utah player was named a Bednarik Award semifinalist was Eric Weddle in 2006.

The Utah standout is one of 16 semifinalists with four total Pac-12 players making the list for the Butkus Award. The award is voted on by 51 coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists with the finalists being announced on November 22. It will be awarded by December 7.
For the Bednarik Award, Lloyd is among 18 candidates, which is selected by the Maxwell Football Club National Selection Committee. Three finalists will be announced on November 23 and the winner being announced as a part of ESPN’s College Football Awards Show on December 9.
Lloyd leads the Utes with 71 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss and six sacks this season.
