LOGAN, Utah – The wild finish in the Utah State/Colorado State had college football social media buzzing on Friday night.
Utah State held off a comeback attempt from the Rams with a 26-24 victory. The game ended in a way nobody could have drawn up.
Colorado State was on the move after picking up a first down that put them on the Aggies 23-yard line. The first down stopped the clock with 11 seconds remaining. Everyone watching the game expected the Rams to likely clock the football and set up a game-winning field goal attempt from 40 yards out.
Instead of clocking the ball on first down, Steve Addazio’s Colorado State squad frantically ran out its field goal unit team to rush a field goal. There was no need for that to happen. It was a fresh set of downs and the clock had stopped.
The Rams pushed forward with a rushed field goal attempt that hooked wide left. Ball game.
With the victory, Utah State improved to 5-2 overall on the season.
Social media reactions to Utah State win over Colorado State
The Aggies deserve some congratulations, but all the focus from people around social media was the decision by game management by Colorado State. Here are some of the notable reactions from the wild finish in the Cache Valley.
One day, USU and CSU will play a game without a wild ending, but it is not this day.https://t.co/T0oB5B3zAR pic.twitter.com/6Ig0eP4XDw

Utah State escapes with a 26-24 win over Colorado State. It’s October 22 and the Aggies are in first place in the Mountain Division with wins in hand over Air Force and CSU. Blake Anderson and his staff have been tremendous.

This is embarrassingly bad from their Staff. Inexplicable. We practiced this situation EVERY SINGLE WEEK so everyone on the team knew what to do when the situation presented itself. CSU was a mess.
Feel terrible for their kids and especially the kicker.

This is one of the worst cases of clock management we’ve probably seen in years. Mind-boggling. Horrible way to lose for Steve Addazio and CSU. https://t.co/qCDdROtF40

CSU picked up the first down with 11 seconds left, instead of spiking it they ran the FG unit on, had players run off… and then missed the FG. Awful from Addazio.
