No. 16 Kearns Takes Down No. 17 Fremont In OT Thriller

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 16th ranked Kearns Cougars needed overtime but was able to pick up a 31-30 win over Fremont in the first round of the state playoffs.
In a game where basically each team exchanged scores, Kearns got a field goal to force overtime. Kyler Kotter ran in a touchdown to take the lead in overtime but missed the PAT. Iosefa Toia’ivao found Kapeli Smith for at touchdown and made the PAT to pick up the win. Toai’ivao had two passing TD’s, finding Smith and Isaac Luckart, while also running in two touchdowns. For Fremont, Cannon Kofford threw two TD’s, connecting with Kotter and David Calvert. Kotter also had two rushing scores.
Kearns will face No. 1 Corner Canyon on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.

Here are all of the results from the 6A classification in the first round of the state playoffs.
No. 24 Cyprus 6 @ No. 9 Riverton 63
Colby Barton threw two touchdowns, while Jake Meyers had one TD toss. They connected with Josh Jacobson twice and McKay Robison once. Meyers along with Easton Hicks, Sam Woolley and Sau Tafisi all ran in touchdowns.
Riverton will battle No. 8 American Fork on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 20 Hunter 10 @ No. 13 Layton 24
Garrett Gifford threw three touchdowns for the Lancers in the win, connecting with Nicolas Sanders, Elias Parkinson and Brigham Lawson.
Layton will square off with No. 4 Weber on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 21 Pleasant Grove 7 @ No. 12 Syracuse 33
The Titans scored 33 unanswered before the Vikings picked up their only touchdown. Chandler Christensen had a passing touchdown and a score on the ground. Jake Hopkins caught a TD and threw a score as well in the win.
Syracuse will take on No. 5 Mountain Ridge on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 23 Clearfield 0 @ No. 10 West Jordan 27
Boston Farmer threw two touchdown passes to Kyle Curtis and Octavian Heflin in the Jaguars’ win. Heflin and Allen Moea’i each had one rushing touchdown.
West Jordan will face No. 7 Bingham on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 19 Westlake 30 @ No. 14 Roy 28
The Thunder were trailing by one point with 11 seconds left before connecting on a field goal to pull off the upset. Kanyon Lee led the way for Westlake with three rushing touchdowns. For Roy, Parker Kingston accounted for three touchdowns, two rushing and one passing to Colby Dickson.
Westlake will battle No. 3 Skyridge on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 22 Granger 16 @ No. 11 West 35
The Panthers jumped out to a 28-0 lead before Granger scored 16 straight points. Karson Lopati threw a TD pass to Sesi Vailahi. Vailahi also ran in a touchdown on the ground. Bronson Saena added two rushing TD’s.
West will take on No. 6 Farmington on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
