OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcats snapped their two-game losing streak with a dominating 38-7 win over Cal Poly on Saturday night.

Kylan Weisser went 11-for-16 passing for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while running in two more TD’s in Weber State’s win. The Wildcats’ defense held Cal Poly to just 115 yards of total offense.

On the opening drive of the game, Weber trucked down the field and Kylan Weisser ran in the touchdown from one-yard out to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 9:51 remaining in the first quarter. That was a 12-play, 75-yard drive.

Cal Poly was forced to punt the ball away on their first drive. When Weber got the ball back, Justin Malone fumbled the ball and the Mustangs recovered with good field position. Cal Poly had the ball on the goal line on fourth down when Weber State’s defense stopped them and tackled them for a loss of yards but they were called for offsides. The Mustangs scored one a one-yard TD to tie the game at seven with 2:05 left in the opening quarter.

It only took seven plays and 75 yards for the Wildcats to respond with a touchdown of their own as Weisser scored his second of the night on the ground, this time from four-yards out. Weber State had a 14-7 lead with 14:03 left in the second quarter. The Wildcats went up two touchdowns when Weisser threw his first TD pass of the night to Dave Jones for an 18-yard score to give the Wildcats a 21-7 advantage with 8:19 left until halftime.

Weber State put a stamp on the first half when Winston Reid sacked Jackson Pavitt and forced him to fumble the ball. B.J. Taufalele recovered the ball and ran in a two-yard touchdown to put them ahead 28-7 with 42 seconds left in the quarter.

Coming out of the locker room, Weber State went down the field and Weisser found Ty MacPherson for a 5-yard TD to give the Wildcats a 35-7 lead with 11:09 left in the third. Randall Johnson entered the game at quarterback at that point and led the Wildcats to a field goal to give them a 38-7 advantage with 7:26 left in the third.

Weber State improved their record to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Big Sky play. They will return to Stewart Stadium in Ogden for their Homecoming game against Montana State on Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. (MDT) on ESPNU.
