SUU Can’t Overcome Eastern Washington’s High-Powered Offense In Big Sky Opener

CEDAR CITY, Utah – It was a tough night for the Southern Utah Thunderbirds after falling to Eastern Washington 50-21 in the Big Sky opener.
Eastern Washington scored first in less than four minutes into the game with a touchdown pass before they tackled SUU in their end zone for a safety to take a 9-0 lead. David Moore put the Thunderbirds on the board with a two-yard touchdown run with one second left in the opening quarter.
EWU put 21 points on the board in the second quarter and limited SUU to just one touchdown on an 11-yard run by Isaiah Williams early in the quarter. The Eagles took a 30-14 lead at the halftime break.

The third quarter was when Eastern Washington pulled away as they outscored SUU 13-7 and had a 43-21 lead going into the fourth quarter. Southern Utah was shut out in the final period and allowed EWU to score one more touchdown midway through the fourth.
SUU dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Big Sky play. They will be back at home on Saturday, October 2 to face Portland State. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. MDT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
