Bingham Miners Blast Mountain Ridge, Hand Sentinels First Loss

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Bingham Miners handed the Mountain Ridge Sentinels their first loss of the season with a blowout victory.
The Miners hosted the Sentinels on Friday, September 24.
Bingham cruised to a 45-7 win.

The Miners struck first with a 41-yard field goal with 9:25 left in the first quarter.
A few minutes later and after a Mountain Ridge punt, Miners running back Saia Lomu powered through multiple defenders to add six more points to Bingham’s total. Lomu’s touchdown gave Bingham a 10-2 lead with 6:14 remaining in the opening quarter.
The first TD of the night goes to the Miners.

The Miners forced another punt on the Sentinels’ next possession. Bingham turned the kick into a special teams touchdown on a big return by Maddax Peck. The touchdown made it a 17-0 lead for the Miners with 4:51 to go in the first quarter.
With 1:56 remaining in the quarter, Peck scored his second touchdown of the game on a big reception. Peck’s score gave the Miners a 24-0 lead.

Bingham continued to roll at the start of the second quarter. Miners running back Havea Fotu cruised into the end zone for six points and a 31-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first half.
The Miners took that advantage into the locker room at halftime.

With 6:33 left in the third quarter, the Sentinels finally found their way across the goal line to cut Bingham’s lead to 31-7.

Mountain Ridge’s success was short-lived as Bingham’s Dallen Martinez showed off his wheels for an 80-yard touchdown run with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter. The touchdown gave the Miners a 38-7 lead.
Eight seconds later, the Miners intercepted the ball and regained possession with excellent field position.
After a few subsequent plays, Bingham made it 45-7 with another score.
The Sentinels took advantage of a Miner turnover and scored their second touchdown of the contest with 1:24 left in the game.
Mountain Ridge’s score cut Bingham’s lead to 45-14.
With the result, the Miners improved to 4-3 on the season and the Sentinels fell to a record of 6-1.
Bingham’s next game is against Copper Hills on Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
