SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid called the Big 12 Conference’s addition of BYU “phenomenal.”
The Big 12 officially accepted BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston as new members of Friday, September 10.
Before his time in the NFL, Reid played and coached at BYU.
Only hours after the Cougars and Big 12 held a press conference to announce the decision, the Super Bowl champion coach praised the move.
“That’s great,” Reid said of BYU joining the Big 12. “That’s phenomenal. Good people up there. They deserve that opportunity. It’s great.”
BYU will begin competing in the Big 12 in 2023. The conference will house all of the Cougars’ sports except for men’s volleyball, which will continue to compete in the Moutain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
