PROVO, Utah – The BYU football uniforms for this week’s game against rival Utah (Saturday, 8:15 p.m. on ESPN & KSL NewsRadio) have been revealed. Not only is this week a rivalry game, but it’s the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
BYU’s uniforms against the Utes will feature their traditional royal blue jersey, white pants, white helmet with “The Giff” facemask. BYU brought The Giff facemask back into the rotation last season. A gray facemask, BYU wore that look when Gifford Nielsen was the Cougars QB in the 1970s.
BYU will have a decal that reads, “9/11 Never Forget” in the shape of the Pentagon and images of the United States Flag and the two World Trade Center towers on the back of the helmet.

This was the same decal that BYU used to pay tribute to 9/11 back in 2014. BYU had a Thursday night ESPN game that season against the Houston Cougars that landed on Patriot Day.
That decal featured navy blue; the 2021 edition is covered in a shade of royal blue.

Last week, BYU donned a “Royal Rush” look in their 24-16 win over the Arizona Wildcats. BYU football has 26 different uniform options in their uniform identity this season. The plan for the 2021 season is to wear a different uniform combination for all 12 games.
Since 2011 in the BYU-Utah rivalry, both teams have worn blue and red jerseys. Utah typically wears an all-red uniform combination against the Cougars. BYU has consistently worn royal blue in the rivalry since the 2013 season.
