SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake striker Douglas Martinez has been placed on loan to San Diego Loyal for the remainder of the 2021 USL season.
“This is a great opportunity for Douglas and we are looking forward to monitoring his progress with San Diego for the remainder of the season,” RSL Technical Director Kurt Schmid said.
Martinez joined the Monarchs in 2019. During the 2019 USL Championship season, Martinez netted 17 goals in 25 appearances and was a crucial piece to the Championship run.

This year, Martinez has been playing the majority of his minutes with the Monarchs following multiple striker acquisitions by the front office during the off-season.
Rubio Rubin and Bobby Wood have been taking all of the time at striker leaving Martinez out of the gameday squad and back with the Monarchs.
Furthermore, Martinez has been busy representing his country; Honduras. He was the only member of the Real Salt Lake organization to represent his country at the recent Tokyo Olympics.
San Diego currently is home to former Monarch captain Jake Blake. This season, the Loyal sit fourth in the Western Conference Pacific table with 8 wins from 20 matches.
Their next fixture will be on August 28th when they travel to the Sacramento Republic for a date with former Monarch’s manager Mark Briggs.
