Utah Football: Depth Chart Predictions Ahead Of 2021 Season Opener

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah football team is wrapping up fall camp this week, which means we will see a depth chart very soon from Kyle Whittingham.

With the season opener just around the corner for Utah football, I figured I would put my depth chart predictions out there and see what Utah fans think.

Here are my depth chart predictions, I will explain some of them but most are based off a combination of my gut, head and what I have heard from the coaches during fall camp.

Quarterback

Starter: Cam Rising
Backup: Charlie Brewer

This race is just too close to call. The coaches and players have even said as much. That’s where I am at on the QB battle. It’s a toss up so I am going to say Rising.

Running Back

Lead Back: Tavion Thomas
Splitting Rest Of Carries: Micah Bernard, T.J. Pledger, Chris Curry

Kyle Whittingham has spoken too highly of Thomas to not put him as the lead back. He won’t get the same workload that Zack Moss or Devontae Booker got when they were in a Utah uniform but he will get more than the other three guys.

Wide Receivers

Starter: Theo Howard
Backup: Devaughn Vele

Starter: Solomon Enis
Backup: Munir McClain

Starter: Britain Covey
Backup: Jaylen Dixon

Tight End

Starter: Brant Kuithe
Also Playing: Cole Fotheringham, Dalton Kincaid

Offensive Line

LT: Simi Moala
Backup: Bamidele Olaseni

LG: Keaton Bills
Backup: Braeden Daniels

C: Nick Ford
Backup: Paul Maile

RG: Sataoa Laumea
Backup: Johnny Maea

RT: Jaren Kump
Backup: ????

I think the backup right tackle is up in the air right now.

Defensive Line

DE: Mika Tafua
Backup: Miki Suguturaga

DT: Viane Moala
Backup: Devin Kaufusi

DT: Hauati Pututau
Backup: Tennessee Pututau

DE: Xavier Carlton
Backup/Starter: Van Fillinger

Linebacker

Starter: Devin Lloyd
Backup: Pick One

Starter: Nephi Sewell
Backup: Pick One

Utah is set at linebacker and are very deep. You can insert any guy like Ethan Calvert, Josh Calvert, Mason Tufaga, Trey Reynolds and the Utes will be fine.

Cornerback

LCB: Clark Phillips III
Backup: Faybian Marks

RCB: JaTravis Broughton
Backup: LaCarea Pleasant-Johnson

Nickel: Malone Mataele
Backup: Drew Rawls

Safety

FS: Vonte Davis
Backup: Kamo’i Latu
