SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that former Utah Utes quarterback Tyler Huntley played “tremendous football” in the team’s first preseason game.
Huntley and the Ravens defeated the New Orleans Saints, 17-14, on Saturday, August 14.
The former Utah standout was a big reason for Baltimore’s three-point victory.

Huntley was one of two Ravens quarterbacks to play against the Saints.
Trace McSorley is currently in a battle with Huntley for Baltimore’s QB2 job behind starter Lamar Jackson.
McSorley started against New Orleans and Huntley finished the contest.
Huntley finished the game 12/16 passing for 79 yards. He ran the ball seven times for 43 yards and the game-winning touchdown with 6:35 left in the fourth quarter.

“I thought they both operated really well,” Harbaugh said of the two quarterbacks following the Ravens’ win. “Tyler came in and just played tremendous football. Made plays running, throwing, just did a great job, won us the game. We called him up, he broke the huddle and at the end of the day it was great.”

“He’s the kind of guy you want behind center,” Roman said.
“He’s won a lot of football games.”

Like his current coaches, one of Huntley’s former college coaches, Andy Ludwig complimented the quarterback’s preseason performance.
“Tyler Huntley is a awesome person,” Ludwig told KSLSports.com’s Trevor Allen. “Awesome football player. Unbelievable football junkie. The way he worked at it, he deserves every shred of success he’s having. I’m fired up for him.”

Harbaugh added that McSorley will be sidelined for a few weeks due to back spasms. The injury will open up even more playing time for Huntley as he battles for the backup quarterback spot during the final weeks of the preseason.
Baltimore’s next preseason game is against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, August 21 at 5 p.m. (MDT).
Huntley and the Ravens kick off their regular season schedule against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 13.
