Paris Holds Celebration In Honor Of Gobert, France Winning Silver At Tokyo Olympics

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A celebration was held next to the Eiffel Tower in Paris in honor of Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert and France’s men’s basketball team winning the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The event was held in the City of Light on Monday, August 9.
Gobert led France to the Gold Medal Game at the Summer Games.

Team USA defeated Les Bleus to win Gold on Friday, August 6. During the Gold Medal Game, Gobert scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Despite a close loss, Gobert and France earned Silver.
It was country’s third-ever Olympic medal in men’s basketball and first since 2000.

All three of France’s men’s basketball medals have been Silver.
Les Bleus won its first silver medal in 1948.
In honor of the second-place finish, thousands of people showed up at the base of the Eiffel Tower to celebrate the accomplishment by Gobert and his teammates.

The crowd also celebrate the city’s turn to host the next Summer Games in 2024.

After the Olympics, FIBA named Gobert to its men’s basketball All-Star Five for his performance in Tokyo.
