SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Gymnastics head coach Tom Farden released a statement after Kara Eaker tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

Multiple reports surfaced on Monday morning that Kara Eaker, who is an alternate for Team USA Gymnastics, tested positive for COVID-19.

Red Rocks head coach Tom Farden released the following statement on Monday afternoon.

“We are devastated and heartbroken for Kara as she worked extremely hard to become a part of Team USA in Tokyo,” Farden’s statement read. “Unfortunately, the virus is still very present and can affect fully vaccinated indivuduals. We will support her in any capacity she may need with the many resources we have here at Utah. Our entire community is behind her through this difficult time and wish her a speedy recovery.”

The Associated Press confirmed the positive COVID-19 test for Eaker along with fellow USA Gymnastics alternate Leanne Wong. Both have been placed in isolation.
