SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah men’s basketball team will reportedly play in the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach this season.
The MTE for Utah basketball will take place November 20-21 with a talented field of Boston College, Rhode Island and Tulsa competing with the Utes in the Sunshine Slam.
This multi-team event (MTE) will also feature a home game at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The opponent, time and date are to be determined.
Jon Rothstein first reported the news of Utah playing in Daytona Beach. KSL Sports has confirmed the report.
The Gazelle Group is running the Sunshine Slam, which also runs the Empire Classic, the Legends Classic, the Gotham Classic and the College Basketball Invitational. It’s the first time in Utah basketball history that they will participate in the Sunshine Slam.
Craig Smith has taken over as the head coach of the Runnin’ Utes following a 10-year tenure from Larry Krystkowiak. This is the first scheduling news for the program under Smith. They will have to get a full non-conference schedule in the books and getting an MTE nailed down is a great start.
