BYU Softball Beats No. 15 Seed Arizona State, Advances To Region Final Of NCAA Tourney

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The BYU softball team advanced to the Region Final of the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament with an upset of No. 15 seed Arizona State.
The Cougars defeated the Sun Devils in Tempe, Arizona on Friday, May 21.
BYU advanced to the Tempe Region Final with a 9-8 victory.
With the loss, the Sun Devils became the first national seed to be eliminated from the tourney.

The win was the second of the day for the Cougars. BYU faced elimination earlier on Friday and beat Southern Illinois to advance and play Arizona State.

BYU softball will play Virginia Tech to determine the Tempe Region winner. The Cougars previously lost to the Hokies in their first game of the NCAA Tournament. On May 20, Virginia Tech beat BYU, 5-2. The loss sent the Cougars to the elimination side of the bracket.

The Cougars and Hokies will play for the Tempe Region on Saturday, May 22 at 4 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN3.
