Rubio “Goals” Rubin
Fortunately, winning games and scoring goals generally leads to recognition in which RSL has seen a lot of through the first two weeks of the season.
This week, Manager Freddy Juarez and striker Rubio Rubin were named to the MLS Team of the Week. Last week, Anderson Julio was the lone RSL recipient of the award after scoring a brace on debut against Minnesota United.
This week, Rubin ended with a brace and was ultimately the difference-maker in the match scoring both second-half goals to allow RSL to cruise to victory.

Rubin’s first goal came after Kreilach found the lively number nine alone at the back post in the 52nd minute, Rubin took a touch before poking the ball between the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net to give the hosts their first lead on the afternoon.
His second goal was a moment of individual brilliance. Rubin received the ball on the left flank but with no options ahead of him was forced to dribble. That he did, he dribbled his way into the area, faked a number of shots before unleashing a bullet into the bottom left corner and adding to his scoring tally.
Freddy “The Wizard” Juarez
Juarez has been just as special throughout the first two games of the 2021 season. In his second full year in charge, he has ultimately rejuvenated the current landscape of the club and remains in control of a unit that was predicted to finish towards the bottom of the league in 2021.
The additions of Pablo Mastroeni and Matt Taylor have paid dividends. While the attacking prowess of Rubin and Julio has proved to be valuable.

Juarez is playing a brand of soccer that has the local RSL fanbase excited to don the Claret and Cobalt. It is an exciting brand, one that will get you out of your seat. It has been a total turnaround from a year ago when RSL looked lost more often than not.
