Utah Jazz Guard Donovan Mitchell Breaks Ankles As He Lights Up Pelicans To Start Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell broke some ankles as he lit up the Pelicans’ defense during his first minutes on the court during the opening quarter against New Orleans.
The Jazz hosted the Pelicans in the second game of a back-to-back with New Orleans at Vivint Arena on Thursday, January 21.
During the opening quarter, Mitchell scored 13 of Utah’s first 17 points. In addition to his scoring, Mitchell pulled down one rebound and dished out a pair of assists in the first quarter.
Breaking Ankles
One of his assists came as he put New Orleans’ Nickeil Alexander-Walker on skates. Mitchell juked out the Pelicans guard to set up Derrick Favors for an easy layup.

Lighting up Pelicans
On January 19, Utah defeated New Orleans, 118-102. During the first quarter of that contest, Mitchell burst for 15 points.
Similar to his first game of the season against the Pelicans, the All-Star burst for 13 quick points in his first six minutes of action.

At the first timeout, the Jazz and Pelicans were tied, 17-17.
Mitchell began the game shooting 5-6 on field goals, including 3-3 from beyond the arc.

At the end of the first quarter, New Orleans led Utah, 43-31.
The Pelicans were led by Brandon Ingram’s 16 points.
