Utah Football Punter Ben Lennon Enters Transfer Portal

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah football program will be after a new punter in 2021 after sophomore punter Ben Lennon decides to enter the transfer portal.

Lennon’s career included two seasons at the helm, mustering 58 punts for an average of 40.4 yards a kick. He was the third consecutive Australian to join the Utah football team as a graduate of ProKick Australia, a punting Academy based in Melbourne, Australia.

Reasons for Lennon’s departure are unknown.

Lennon leaves Utah as a sophomore and has two seasons remaining on his eligibility clock.

However, with the NCAA expected to announce a free one-time transfer policy for the upcoming 2021 season in January, Lennon will likely be eligible to transfer to another division 1 college without having to sit out a year.

The Next Utah Punter?

Furthermore, redshirt freshman walk-on Jared March handled the punting duties during the final game of the 2020 season against Washington State. He ended with a 42.4 yard average on five punts. Lennon was absent due to contact tracing and was unable to compete.

March will compete with whoever Kyle Whittingham decides to bring into the program this upcoming Spring and Fall for the starting punter job in 2021.

Transfers A Plenty

Utah Football has been hit hard by the transfer bug over recent weeks. Running Backs Devin Brumfield and Jordan Wilmore announced their intent on transferring two weeks ago.

More players are expected to announce their intentions of transferring with the expected free transfer policy impending by the NCAA.
