Three-Pointers, Tough Defense Help BYU To First Half Run Against SDSU

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A trio of three-point shots and strong defense helped the BYU men’s basketball team earn a double-digit lead over the No. 18 San Diego State Aztecs.
The Aztecs hosted the Cougars on Friday, December 18.
Midway through the first half, BYU locked down on defense and forced the Aztecs to miss eight straight field goals.

In addition to SDSU’s scoring drought that lasted more than five minutes, the Cougars knocked down a handful of threes.

BYU’s Trevin Knell buried a couple of triples while Alex Barcello added another.
Following the 9-0 run, BYU owned a 21-10 lead at the under-eight timeout.
At halftime, BYU led 35-20.

Barcello led the Cougars with 12 points.
Matt Mitchell led the Aztecs with nine points.
