PROVO, Utah – The climb of BYU football in 2020 continues. BYU made jumps in both the Coaches and Associated Press Top 25 polls this week after a 41-10 victory over Western Kentucky to move the Cougars to a 7-0 start for the first time since 2001.

In the Coaches, BYU jumped one spot to No. 9 because of Texas’ upset victory over Oklahoma State. The upset dropped the Cowboys out of the Top 10. In the Associated Press poll, BYU moved up to No. 9 as well. Moving the Cougars up two spots from last week’s No. 11 ranking.

The media ranked BYU over Wisconsin, who didn’t play this weekend due to COVID-19 issues on their roster.

BYU checks in at No. 9 in both Top 25 polls

Now BYU’s toughest test of the season awaits this Friday in the Boise State Broncos. Boise State has opened its shortened season with a  2-0 record. The Broncos are ranked No. 23 and No. 21 in the Coaches and AP polls.

This will be only the second time in Kalani Sitake’s tenure as head coach that BYU is in a game featuring two ranked teams. The other was in 2018 when BYU lost to No. 11 Washington in Seattle, 35-7.

BYU has never defeated Boise State in Boise, but the Cougars did get the upper hand against an undefeated and nationally-ranked Broncos squared last season.
