Real Salt Lake, Sam Johnson Agree To Terminate Forward’s Contract

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake and forward Sam Johnson announced a mutual agreement to end the player’s contract.
RSL made the announcement on Saturday, October 31.
“Real Salt Lake and forward Sam Johnson have mutually agreed to terminate the player’s contract,” the team announced in a statement.
Johnson also shared the news with a post on social media.
“As of today, I ended my contract with @realsaltlake on mutual agreement.I want to thank @realsaltlake the staff, my teammates and all the amazing fans #TheRiot and the @mls for the past 2 seasons,” Johnson shared on Instagram. “Great league @mls and country. I wish you guys all the best. It’s time for a new chapter in my career ! I’m exited .. Lets Go.”
Earlier in October, the MLS club suspended Johnson amid an investigation involving a shooting at a home allegedly owned by the forward.
Sam Johnson is currently being investigated by the league following a violation of team and league COVID-19 protocols.

“The team and League are aware of the incident and are currently conducting an investigation. In accordance with health and safety protocols, the player is prohibited from engaging in any team-related activity,” Real Salt Lake said in a statement at the time of Johnson’s suspension.
On October 31, the club said that it will “have no further comment on the situation.”
Johnson signed a two-year deal with RSL in February of 2018 with a club option for a third year.
He scored 10 goals in 30 appearances with Real Salt Lake.
