PROVO, Utah – Two Mountain West Conference and WAC rivals in BYU and San Diego State have pieced together a game once again for the 2020 season.

After the Mountain West Conference revealed its new revised 2020 schedule for its return on October 24th, BYU and SDSU announced they would be playing a non-conference game in Provo on December 12th.

BYU, San Diego State is back on for 2020

The two teams originally had a game scheduled to be played on November 14th. But the Mountain West Conference in August postponed its football season to the spring, leaving the game canceled.

Once the Mountain West Conference decided to return to play on the gridiron this fall, San Diego State and BYU got together and made a game work.

BYU and San Diego State have announced a game between the two schools on Dec. 12, 2020, at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.

“We are excited to have the Aztecs back on the schedule,” said BYU director of Athletics Tom Holmoe. “We share a long history of exciting games over many decades. We are pleased the Mountain West Conference determined to play football in 2020 and worked with San Diego State to allow this previously scheduled non-conference game to be played.”

San Diego State always wanted to play BYU in the fall of 2020, even when a conference-only format was being tossed around for the Mountain West Conference back in August.

BYU is now up to 10 regular-season games for the 2020 football season, with an 11th still out there if the Army West Point game is rescheduled on November 28th.

BYU football in December

This game will mark the first-ever time that BYU has played a home football game in Provo in the month of December. BYU has played 13 regular-season games (not including bowls or conference championship games) in the month of December in their 97-year history. The last December regular-season game was in 2011 when BYU traveled to play Hawaii on December 3rd.
