PROVO, Utah – If a season is played in 2020, BYU senior Matt Bushman is believed to be one of the best tight ends in college football.
More evidence showing Bushman is one of the nation’s best tight ends this year as he was named to the Mackey Award watch list. The Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.

This is the third consecutive year Bushman has been recognized on the Mackey Watch List.
In each of his previous three seasons in Provo, Bushman has led BYU in receiving yards. Last year, Bushman had 688 receiving yards on 47 receptions and found his way into the end zone on four occasions.
Bushman has the opportunity in 2020 to become only the second BYU player in program history to lead the Cougars in receiving yardage in all four seasons of his career. The other is wide receiver Cody Hoffman who is the school’s all-time leading receiver.
Now Bushman heads into his senior season set to be BYU’s top receiving target in an offense that was 26th nationally in passing yardage a season ago.
Bushman is the second player on BYU’s offense to be named to a preseason award watch list. The other was junior running back Lopini Katoa who was named to Doak Walker Award Watch List.
