As a redshirt freshman in 2018, Colombi played in seven games, throwing for 239 yards along with 108 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Utah State coaches and fans were excited about Colombi’s future as the potential starter and with the addition of Shelley, it had the makings of a great quarterback battle.
Now, the clear cut starter for Utah State is Jason Shelley, who will be eligible immediately after receiving a waiver from the NCAA. Shelley will have two years of eligibility remaining.
In two seasons with the Utes, Shelley threw for 1,205 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He owned a completion percentage of 58.1. In addition, Shelley carried the ball 82 times for 223 yards and 4 touchdowns across his two seasons.
Utah State was scheduled to open the 2020 season against Washington State at home but after the Pac-12 announcement of going to a conference-only schedule, that game and their game against Washington was canceled.
As of now, the Aggies will open the 2020 season at home against Southern Utah on Saturday, September 12.
