Weber State Football Cracks Top Three In Athlon Preseason FCS Rankings

OGDEN, Utah – The nation is taking notice of the Weber State football program as Athlon Sports has ranked the Wildcats No. 3 in their preseason FCS rankings.
In addition, Weber State has three Wildcats named to the Athlon All-America preseason team. The No. 3 ranking was what the Wildcats finished the 2019 season as which is the highest ranking in school history.
WSU is the top-ranked team in the Big Sky Conference and trails only three-time defending national champion North Dakota State at No. 1 and Northern Iowa at No. 2. Weber State and Northern Iowa are scheduled to play on Sept. 19 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The national runner-up James Madison comes in at No. 4. The Big Sky Conference has four teams in the top 12, showing how competitive the league is. Montana State made the top five along with Montana at No. 7, former Utah offensive coordinator and Sacramento State head coach Troy Taylor’s team is No. 12 in the preseason ranking.

The two primary FCS preseason polls – the STATS FCS and the AFCA coaches’ poll – will be announced closer to the start of the season.
The three Wildcats that made the Athlon preseason All-America list includes running back Josh Davis, kicker Trey Tuttle and offensive lineman Ty Whitworth. That trio was recently named to the HERO Sports Preseason All-America team.
Weber State will open the 2020 season on the road against Wyoming on Saturday, September 5.
