BYU Installing New Blue Seating In Upper Deck Of Marriott Center

PROVO, Utah – BYU’s Marriott Center has seen some improved amenities the past few seasons. Comfortable padded seats in navy blue were installed in the lower bowl in 2012 and 2015 and then a state-of-the-art scoreboard was also put in to enhance the fan experience.
Now the upper bowl of the Marriott Center is getting some upgrades as well. All of the benches in the Marriott Center’s upper deck are being replaced with benches that are now blue.

Chairbacks in the upper bowl will stay in the arena and maintain the original color that they’ve had since the Marriott Center was introduced in 1971.
The Marriott Center holds 18,987 seats, down from the 22,700 it used to hold prior to the lower bowl renovations five years ago. These new benches are not expected to alter the seating capacity.
BYU basketball has formed one of the toughest home-court advantages in all of college basketball. Over the last 21 seasons, BYU has posted a 260-39 record in the Marriott Center, one of the tops in the country.
This past season, BYU was 14-1 home in Mark Pope’s first year as head coach and it was highlighted by a win on Senior Night over No. 2 Gonzaga. ESPN’s Sean Farnham was on the call for that game and he said it was the loudest environment in his 20 years covering college basketball.
That environment vs Zags was loudest I’ve heard in 20 years of covering CBB…and I have called games everywhere. https://t.co/rfsps1Axlc

In the 2020-21 season, rival Utah, in-state foe Utah Valley, and Boise State from the Mountain West Conference are all expected to make trips to the Marriott Center next season. The full 2020-21 season has yet to be revealed.
