BYU Basketball Creates National Championship Moment Out Of Legos

PROVO, Utah – Life without live sports continues to roll on, so anything that looks like a sporting event captures our attention, including a game made up of Legos.
Monday night was supposed to be the College Basketball National Championship Game. But due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA Tournament was canceled. So now we are only left to wonder who would have emerged as College Basketball’s champion.
BYU basketball did just that by creating what they envision the National Championship Game would have been featuring the Cougars in a rematch against the No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
Tonight would have been the night a new college basketball champion was crowned.
We’ll never know how it would have played out, but we’ll always have our hoop dreams …

The clip focuses on the final seconds of the game with BYU trailing Kansas. TJ Haws then does what he did best throughout the season, hit a game-winner to give BYU its first Men’s Basketball National Championship.
If only that was real life. But you can admire the details put into the clip. Zac Seljaas is rocking a mustache, Mark Pope with no hair, it was as close to the real thing as we can get these days.
BYU pulled out the Voice of the Cougars Greg Wrubell to make a call on Haws’ game-winner in the Legos simulation, “TJ open for three and the win … HE GOT IT! HE GOT IT! TJ Haws with the shot of his career! And it’s a Cougar Nation celebration! BYU 81, Kansas 79. The BYU Cougars are college basketball’s National Champions!”
Legos Animator has made BYU clips in the past
The Lego Animation was created by Jared Jacobs a.k.a. “Goldyeller,” who has made other BYU clips using Legos in the past. He has recreated the 2006 Beck to Harline game-winner and the Miracle at Memorial in 2015 against Nebraska.
Add this Lego simulation to all the others that have had BYU having success in the 2020 NCAA Tournament had it been played.
ESPN BPI had the Cougars in the National Championship game against Wisconsin, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi had BYU falling in the Elite 8 to Gonzaga, and Reddit’s video game simulation has BYU currently in the Sweet 16.
The 2020 BYU basketball team will go down as the team that everyone will wonder what could have been had a global pandemic not rocked all of our worlds.
