PROVO, Utah – There’s only one former BYU basketball player that goes by one name and that man is Jimmer.
Jimmer Fredette is a beloved figure among BYU fans worldwide. So you can only imagine the reaction when fans saw Jimmer appear on the big screen prior to tip-off of the biggest game at the Marriott Center in nearly a decade.

The place went nuts.
Jimmer was part of the hype video in the pregame before the Cougars Top 25 showdown against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. BYU has a history of dropping a white curtain over the scoreboard and showing a bunch of videos on the curtain to get fans excited. Prior to those highlights, Jimmer emerged saying, “Let’s get hyped! Cougar fans, it’s time…LIGHTS!”
Fredette is considered to be one of the greatest players in BYU basketball history. In Jimmer’s senior year in 2011, he helped lead BYU to their first Sweet 16 appearance in 30 years. While also winning the Wooden Award given to College Basketball’s best player in a given season.
One of Jimmer’s greatest moments in his BYU career was taking down Kawhi Leonard and No. 4 San Diego State at the Marriott Center. With the Jimmer karma on their side, will BYU take down No. 2 Gonzaga? Might need a Jimmer-like performance from someone to pull it off.
BYU against Gonzaga can be heard on KSL NewsRadio beginning at 8 p.m. and is televised on ESPN2.
