Brandon Averette’s 23 Points Carries Utah Valley Past Grand Canyon

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines won their second straight game with a 92-80 win over Grand Canyon at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah.
Brandon Averette led UVU with 23 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and 3-7 from the three-point line. He is one of five Wolverines to score in double figures. Isaiah White added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Casdon Jardine chipped in 14 points, Jamison Overton scored 12 points and Trey Woodbury had 10. T.J. Washington had a great game as well with 4 points and 13 assists.
The Wolverines were very effective shooting the basketball, finishing with 53 percent field goal shooting along with 7-20 for 35 percent from beyond the arc. The big difference in the game was their 33 free throw attempts and connecting on 27.
This game featured two lead changes and was tied 3 times throughout with Utah Valley outscoring Grand Canyon 38-31 in the first half and 54-49 in the second half.

Grand Canyon was led by both Carlos Johnson and Alessandro Lever with 23 points apiece. Isaiah Brown chipped in 13 points off the bench. The Antelopes shot 50 percent from the floor, went 6-10 from the three-point line and made 20 of their 28 free throw attempts.
Utah Valley improved their record to 11-17 overall and 5-8 in WAC play. The Wolverines are in 8th place in the conference standings but are just two games behind Grand Canyon for 4th. They will play their final road game of the season on Wednesday, February 26 at California Baptist. The game will begin at 8 p.m. and will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
