SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The New Orleans Saints want Drew Brees back for one more season in order to pass the torch to Taysom Hill, according to sources of ProFootballTalk.
ProFootballTalk, an NBA affiliate, reported that Brees is “genuinely and seriously” considering retirement but the Saints want him to stick around for one more season.
“As one source explained it to PFT, the Saints want Brees back for what would essentially become a transition year, from Brees to Hill,” wrote PFT.

The same source reported Hill would then become the starter in 2021.
“Even if Brees comes back, Hill will be used much more extensively as part of the team’s offense in 2020,” continued PFT based on their undisclosed source.
Hill is a restricted free agent while Brees is an unrestricted free agent. The NFL’s free agency period kicks off on March 18.
The former BYU quarterback has been a prolific special teams player for the Saints and has been a versatile offensive weapon for Sean Payton.

Hill has caught, thrown and ran for plenty of touchdowns during his time with the Saints.
“His performance demands those opportunities,” said Saints head coach of Hill earlier in the season.
