Southern Utah Suffers Heartbreaking Overtime Loss To Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds couldn’t get past Eastern Washington, falling to the Eagles in overtime 81-78.
In a tightly contested game, the Thunderbirds outscored EWU 40-38 in the first half but the Eagles held a 33-31 advantage in the second half. SUU had a six point lead with under one minute remaining in regulation when Jacob Davison hit a three-pointer to trim the deficit to three. Then Mason Peatling tied the game with a triple with 24 seconds left.
Eastern Washington scored 10 points in the extra period and held the Thunderbirds to 7.
Dwayne Morgan led SUU with 22 points off the bench, along with 8 rebounds. John Knight III added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Andre Adams posted 11 points and 8 boards, along with 10 points from Cameron Oluyitan.

As a team, the Thunderbirds shot 43 percent from the field, 35 percent from downtown and 15-20 from the free throw line.
For Eastern Washington, Peatling led all scorers with 30 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 11-16 from the field. Kim Aiken Jr. and Davison added 11 points apiece. They shot 46 percent from the field, 37 percent from deep and just 15-27 from the charity stripe.
Southern Utah dropped to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in Big Sky Conference play. The Thunderbirds will stay on the road and will face Idaho on Monday at 7:30 p.m. on Pluto TV.
