UVU’s White Hits Game-Winner In Final Seconds To Beat UT Rio Grande Valley

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley men’s basketball team defeated the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros on a game-winning layup made by Wolverines guard Isaiah White in the final seconds of regulation.
UVU defeated the Vaqueros at the UCCU Center for its second Western Athletic Conference win of the season on Saturday, January 18.
The Wolverines found themselves tied 70-70 with Rio Grande Valley after Vaqueros forward Sean Rhea dunked the ball with 14 seconds left to play. UVU’s White drove past the Vaqueros’ defense and laid the ball off the glass and into the basket to give the Wolverines a two-point advantage with two seconds remaining. Rio Grande Valley’s last-second three-pointer fell short and Utah Valley took the win with a 72-70 victory.

White finished the game with 9 points on 2-5 shooting including 1-3 from three-point range. He added 8 rebounds and an assist in the win.
The Wolverines were led in scoring by TJ Washington who scored 25 points off the bench. Washington shot 6-12 on field goals, 2-5 from behind the arc, and 11-12 from the foul stripe.

The Vaqueros were carried by Lesley Varner II’s 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Rhea scored 14 points and pulled down 6 boards for UT Rio Grande Valley.
With the victory, Utah Valley improved to 8-12 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play. The Vaqueros fell to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in conference games.
The Wolverines’ next game is against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, January 23 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN3.
