CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah head coach Demario Warren announced the hiring of former University of Pacific coach Matt Wade as the Thunderbirds’ new offensive coordinator.
Wade’s hire was announced by Southern Utah on Friday, January 17.
The new SUU OC joins a team that finished the 2019 season with a 3-9 record after spending seven seasons as Pacific’s offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and recruiting coordinator.
“I am excited to work alongside Matt,” said Warren. “He set the standard throughout the entire interview process. His teaching ability and his preparation really shined through. I’m excited to see our offense get on the field for the start of spring ball.”

Wade replaces Justin Walterscheid, who SUU announced on December 11, 2019, would not return to the T-Birds’ coaching staff for the 2020 season.
Last season, Wade led Pacific’s offensive to school records for points per game, total offense per game, passing yards per game, and rushing yards per game.
He was the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at UC Davis from 2007-12 before joining Pacific.
Wade and the Thunderbirds open the 2020 season by hosting Dixie State on Saturday, September 5.
