SANDY, Utah – Everton Luiz was voted the Most Valuable Player by his teammates following his first year with the club in 2019. Luiz will now be here for good, and will not have to worry what the future holds for the Brazilian 31-year-old and his family.
Real Salt lake has exercised the purchase option on his loan using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
“We are thrilled to be able to keep a foundational piece of our midfield,” RSL General Manager Elliot Fall said. “He joined us in 2019 and quickly established himself as a key contributor to everything we are trying to do.”

Luiz started 24 of 27 appearances for the Claret and Cobalt during his first year, adding 2 assists and 73 tackles (which ranked 19th in MLS) to his name.
“With such a young team, Everton added a veteran presence and his work-ethic and ability to break plays while showing some flare was important to our success,” RSL Head Coach Freddy Juarez said. “He adds to our toughness on the field and his professionalism in the locker room helps set the tone for what we want to do as a club.”
Luiz was signed, on loan, from Italian club Società Polisportiva prior to coming to the MLS. Before Italy, Luiz had stinks in Serbia, Switzerland, Mexico and his home country Brazil, where his career began.
Kyle Beckerman Update
Luiz will likely continue to play a pivotal role for RSL’s midfield in 2020. Who he plays next to is a question that could be discussed for a long, long time.
There is no news on the career status of Kyle Beckerman. Will he retire? Will he sign another contract with the club? Will his minutes be restricted due to his age? Does he leave the club and continue his career elsewhere? Nobody knows.
Captain @KyleBeckerman personally delivered the RSL Parley jerseys to the auction winners on Saturday. 100% of the funds raised are going toward bringing solar power to homes on the Navajo reservation in southern Utah.
