Corner Canyon Wins 6A Title Behind Pass Defense, Hagen’s Arm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Corner Canyon Chargers behind the arm of quarterback Cole Hagen and impressive pass defense, defeated the American Fork Cavemen to win the 6A state championship.
The Chargers defeated the Cavemen 49-14 on Friday, November 22 to win state championships in back-to-back seasons.
Hagen threw for 349 yards and 4 touchdowns in the victory. The Chargers’ defense intercepted American Fork QB Maddux Madsen four times in the blowout.
Corner Canyon took an early 14-0 lead over the Cavemen.

American Fork responded with a 34-yard run by Jackson Gregory to cut the Charger lead to seven.

The Chargers answered right back to push the lead back to 14 points.

A couple of minutes later, Hagen led Corner Canyon down the field with 23 seconds left in the half to give the Chargers a 28-7 advantage at the break.

Corner Canyon tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter to push the scoreboard to 42-7.
Devin Downing had an impressive reach for the second Cavemen touchdown of the game. Unfortunately for American Fork, it was a little too late and the Chargers’ large lead was too much to overcome.

Hagen ended the game throwing 24-36 for 349 yards including a big 49-yard throw that set up a Corner Canyon TD. Hagen found three receivers for more than 70 yards each.

Hagen found his brother Cody for 8 times for 74 yards. Talmage Handley posted 5 catches for 102 yards.
Noah Kjar led the receivers in scoring with 6 receptions for 91 yards and 3 touchdowns.
American Fork QB Maddux Madsen struggled in the defeat. He was 16/33 for 146 yards and a touchdown as well as 4 interceptions.
Gregory finished the game with 24 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown.
American Fork finished the season 10-5 with the loss.
The No. 7 nationally-ranked Chargers finished the season 14-0 and undefeated for the second year in a row.
