Brandon Averette Leads UVU’s Second Half Surge Past Ottawa (AZ)

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley’s Brandon Averette scored a team-high 17 points as the Wolverines used a second half run to get past Ottawa (AZ), 101-70.
After holding just a 4-point lead at halftime, the Wolverines outscored Ottawa 57-30 in the second half to cruise to their second win of the season.
Averette was productive in the win, making 7-of-9 from the field in 27 minutes. Casdon Jardine added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both Trey Woodbury and Jamison Overton dropped 14 points apiece. Brandon Morley chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds in just 14 minutes on the floor.

Utah Valley shot 53 percent from the field, including 57 percent in the second half. They struggled from the three-point line, making just 28 percent of their attempts, but attempted 27 free throws and made 21 of them.
Once the three-point shot wasn’t falling, they took the ball inside and it showed with 56 points in the paint. They had 21 points off of turnovers and picked up 37 bench points in the victory.
UVU improved to 2-1 on the season. They will start a two-game road trip that will begin on Friday against UAB. The game will begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on CUSA.tv. Then they will head over to Kentucky on Monday at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
