BYU forced three turnovers by the Aggies in the first half and only gave up the ball themselves once.
In addition to Love’s picks, USU running back Gerold Bright lost a fumble on the Aggies’ second possession of the game.
Aside from the turnovers, the “Battle for the Old Wagon Wheel” was fairly matched at halftime.
The Aggies slightly outgained the Cougs in total yardage 336-312. BYU held the advantage 98-75 on the ground while USU threw for 261 yards compared to the Cougars’ 214.
Brigham Young controlled the football 16:17 to Utah State’s 13:43 in time of possession. The Aggies went up-tempo late in the second quarter which gassed the Cougars defense. USU took advantage and closed the gap to seven before the break.
